Introduction to watercolors

Duration - 1 day (8 hours)
Structure
1. Introduction to different types of papers, brushes, paints and other tools and appratus used in watercolor painting
2. Basic techniques of watercolor like washes, wet in wet, glazing, dry brush, color mixing with practice
3. Application of the techniques in a painting by participants
4. Discussions on painting process
5. Painting demonstration by instructor
6. Final paintings by participant
7. Appreciation and Critique by the instructor and participants

Landscapes with watercolors

Duration - 2 days (14 hours)
Structure
Day 1
1. Introduction to different types of papers, brushes, paints and other tools and appratus used in watercolor painting
2. Basic techniques of watercolor like washes, wet in wet, glazing, dry brush, color mixing with practice
3. Application of the techniques in a painting by participants
4. Discussion on composition, perspective, light and shade in a painting with practice

Day 2
5. Discussion and demo on building mood and atmosphere in a painting with practice
6. Discussions on painting process
7. Painting demonstration by instructor
8. Final paintings by participants
9. Appreciation and Critique by the instructor and participants


On location with watercolors

Duration - 3 days (20 hours)
Structure
Day 1
1. Introduction to different types of papers, brushes, paints and other tools and appratus used in watercolor painting
2. Basic techniques of watercolor like washes, wet in wet, glazing, dry brush, color mixing with practice
3. Application of the techniques in a painting by participants
4. Discussion on composition, perspective, light and shade in a painting

Day 2
5. Discussion and demo on building mood and atmosphere in a painting with practice
6. Discussions on painting process when painting indoors and outdoors
7. Painting demonstration by instructor
8. Practice paintings by participants
9. Appreciation and Critique by the instructor and participants

Day 3
1. Paintings by participants at an outdoor location (In case of bad weather this can be postponed).
2. Study of a few of the works by the participants
3. Feedback by the instructor



Requirements for the workshop

I usually work with no more than 10 participants at a time for workshop. It helps me to give good amount of attention to all participants. A few basic things are required for the workshop as listed below.

For the workshop

1. Tables and chairs for all participants and for me
2. Projector with PC/Laptop
3. Easel and board for me
4. Good quality Indian handmade paper cut into quarter imperial size (11x15 inch) for participants
5. Indoor space with good lighting
6. Miscellaneous items as per workshop

1. Board
2. Pencil - One dark (8B/9B) one light 2B
3. Palette with large mixing area
4. Water container
5. Brush
   -Round number 10
   -Round number 6 or 8
   -Round number 2 or 4
   -Flat 1 inch
   -Rigger/Liner
6. Tissue paper
7. Paints - Artist quality watercolor tubes.
