Waterclour Begins and ................ Ends (in no time)

still life with fruits
I don't remember exactly when, but it was sometime during September/October of 2008 when I suddenly got a spark to start doing watercolors. I came across the works of a lot of watercolor artists on the inter net and I was literally thrilled and excited. So in natural course of action I had procured watercolor equipments in no time.

But all my excitement came to an end very soon. The first painting that I did was that of a simple arrangement of fruits on our dining table and it was a disaster. But considering the fact it was my first painting I went forward and did my second painting from a reference photo and it was a bigger disaster as you can see. The third was the biggest disaster of them all. So I decided not to do watercolours again.

Doing my own stuff

Sunflowers oil painting
A friend and former colleague of mine Mini once presented me with a book on Van Gogh. I did my next few original paintings after I read that book. So there is my version of sunflowers.

RIMC war memorial
The other painting is that of the war memorial of Rashtriya Indian Millitary College (RIMC) where I did the bulk of my schooling. The war memorial is in a shape that represents a mother holding her child. Both are oil on canvas and both are high on Vincent Van Gogh.

The history

Study of Potato eaters by Van Gogh
I learnt to paint everytime I paint. I have not done any course in arts; Never got an opportunity to. But I keep learning everyday. My paintings come out of my experince. Things that I see, hear, feel, think come into my paintings. I paint things that I identify with. At school I used to paint. But after that and after a long time I have started again and this time more passionate than ever. I dont do much oils now but thats how I started. Initially by copying old masters. Here are some of them.
