Market scene with....

Sometimes no matter what one tries the painting just does not become half as good as the sketch.

When I did the sketch I though I had been able to capture the 'buzz' in the market. When I did the first painting I did not have the sketch with me. So when I finally had both of them together I realized how badly I had missed the sketch during the painting. So I tried a new version with different treatment. But still to me the sketch remains the best of them all. It just captures the essence better than the others.

Prabal,

I agree with you about the sketch. I am a big fan of sketches and very often consider sketches to be far superior than finished works.

However, all three version of the market scene are beautiful. The cool colours of the watercolour version makes it appear soothing to the eye. The warmth of the ink/acrylic version conveys yet naother mood.

Great work.

I liked all the three sketches! Sketches are so easy and quick to make and they give a different feeling. I too love sketches but colors add flavor to it...:)

Sujit,
Thanks for the comment. I agree that most of the time sketches are better than the final painting.

Megha,
Good to know that you liked all of them.

Although both paintings are really very good, I do agree with you about the sketch! It is vibrant and full of life.

I, too, hold my sketches close to my heart. The painting is the end result and the sketch is the birthing process. I have many sketchbooks but I will very seldom give a sketch away. You have to be really special to get one.
I love that colored paper technique. I have never tried that with wc. Hummmmmmm.

Very nice painting. You hve used the tinted paper very nicely and skillfully. And thanks for the advic . I dont use any scales or rulers or any other mechanical instruments, but breaking the lines may help. I will surely try that.
Best wishes.

I like your theme a lot; and the various steps leading to your final painting.Again you did a great job Prabal, the earthy tones brought alive by the orange.

Kathy,
I too never give away any sketches.. I really like my sketches more than my paintings in general. Its fun to work with colored paper. You must try out.

Vinayak,
Thanks. For people like you and me internet has become a great place to learn from each other.

Sadia,
Thank you so much. I just wanted some elements in the painting to just come up. All those orange, red, yellow and whites helped me in that against the brown background.

Hi Prabal
Nice post. I like both of your paintings and the sketch. I have seen artist's value sketches that should be framed and sold they are so good. I have an art journal that I carry around with me. I do end up with sketches that I like. I take photos to use as a reference to add watercolor later at home. I enjoy your work.

Prabal,
Market Scene with Melons caught my eye. The overall colors and light. Then I read your post. I find that my value sketches always capture what I want with so little effort. Your sketch has movement and I feel like I am there. All are great studies, though.
