Last rites

last rites - watercolor
Another concept painting.. and this one is purely from imagination.

In India it is said that the souls of the dead do not leave this world until their last rites are performed. This painting is about the last rites being performed for some one.

I started off with only the two people and the river in the scene and suddenly a village came up in some distance with the paddy fields and the two trees also popped up to make it a complete painting.

Getting great with non-detailed shapes describing people in action, foilage .... !

You didnt mention about the dramatic sky :D and the best is, it really fits in with the subject of the painting ! Is as if the Gods are descending to receive the departed soul !

Oh Sahu,

Actually I did not want to mention about the sky part because my thought process was different and I wanted to see what interpretation everybody else draws out of it..

Well I had meant that the soul is actually leaving this world.

This has such a peaceful tranquil feel about it, and the sky was also something that I noticed right away.
