Portrait - II

Here is the second portrait. The first one was my father and this one is my mom. I am very happy with this one. I think I'll make another portrait of my father. I am improving and that is exciting.

p.s. My sister says this one has more likeliness, but the previous portrait is better. All my excitement has vanished now. :)

p.p.s. If you do not already know Crystal Cook is giving away a free portrait. You can check out her blog here.

Prabal, this is awesome. The moment I looked at it, before I read your commentary, I thought, she has Prabal's smile.........LOL then I find out it's your Mother. Wonderful!

Good job, Prabal! Only your second attempt and already the improvement is obvious. Keep at it.

Great job Prabal! Look at how great you're doing with these! You should feel good about it, it's great :)

Stunning work Prabal, and gorgeously loose brushwork. Did you use a brush for the fine work in her hair? The abstract background sets the portrait off incredibly well.

Very nice portrait of your mom, she is a beautiful woman..I like the brushwork and background colors. What I don't like is the use of blue on her face, it makes the portrait look sombre instead of happy!( i may be wrong, though :))

Ajay,
Thanks. Just experimenting with yellow, red and blue.

Carol,
This is one of the best compliments I have heard in recent times (I have my mom's smile).

Michelle,
Your self portrait is where I have to reach. :)

Crystal,
I am actually feeling very good. I was almost thrilled after I did this. There is a long way to go. But I am enjoying myself a lot.

Frank,
For the fine work in the hair I used a number 2 rigger brush. And in general I like abstract background in portraits. Thank you for your kind comment.

Sparrowhawk,
Thank you so much.

Arti,
Thanks for your comment. This one, the previous one and a few more that I plan to are all without strong lights. So there is not much of tonal variation. That is why I am experimenting with colors. Using yellow for strongest light, red for normal light and blue for the shadows. I'll be experimenting with some more. So please bear with me as some more portraits will have blue in them. :)

Both are really great - But I particularly like the colours in the background of this one and the light hitting the chin and the cheeks. Your parents must be very proud to show these off Prabal!

Well done, Prabal :)

Hey thanks for the nice shout out Prabal :):)

And I just re-read my comment and noticed I wrote 'great' three times. Jeez, how lame is that? I should read over those comments before I post them.

Your painting is lovely and vibrant and captures so much personality. Really it does.

Consider that my original comment :)

Prabal, this is my favorite out of the two. I think it looks exactly like your mom. lol. I love the coloring in this one more. So are you going to do one of your sister?

good ones Prabal !
liked the liberal usage of colours (hues I mean).
Aunty's portrait has more likeliness.
Waiting for the uncle part-II :)

Kathy,
You are correct. This looks exactly like my mom. :) And you are correct again. I am going to do portraits of my sisters too. :)

PC,
As Kathy has already guessed I'll be doing my sister's portrait next. Then Dad-II.

This is beautiful painting --I love how you have captured her smile and the look of sincerity in her eyes:) The teeth are usually hard to paint and you have done a very fine job. Nice brushwork elsewhere too.

I don't know your parents Prabal, but this is one lovely lady! Beautiful colours - keep on with the portraits!

Prabal said...

Meera,
Thanks for your comment. Not only the teeth, but every part of the portrait is quiet challenging for me. Buts its fun too.

Liz,
Thank you so much. My mom is very beautiful. And I hope I have done justice to her portrait. :)
