Chilika Stills

First of all thank you so much for suggesting title for my painting in the previous post. I really loved all of them. The title that I chose was inspired by a title suggested by a friend on facebook. So my painting is now called 'Ode to the superhero', the superhero in context being the farmer who keeps al of us well fed.

Currently a watercolor exhibition by Mr Kashinath Hiremath is going on at Chitrakala Parishat. I had had the good fortune of meeting him last year in January and again this year I met him at his exhibition. It was really a nice experience chatting up with him and it was a treat experiencing his work at the exhibition. It is on till 15th Jan. So you may want to go there if you are around. You can see some of his works here.

Coming to this painting now. This is a scene of the banks of Chilika lake. I had visited this place in December and had spent a night in one of the islands in the lake. The landscape in that time of the year was very still. Everything looked almost like a photo, where nothing moved. I have tried to capture that stillness here. Tried, but not sure whether captured it. I am calling this Chilika stills - I, because I plan to do one or two more of such scenes. I hope I carry out my plan. :)

How have you been. What is that you are trying to capture in your next painting? I would love to hear from you.

Title - Chilika Stills - I
Size - 15 x 22 inch
Medium - Watercolor on paper

This is great Prabal, I like the palette and composition of the painting and how you have captured the water.
This is of particular interest to me, as at our next club meeting, we have to submit a painting with the theme 'water', so I have to figure out how to go about this tricky subject. The best interpretation will be judged by our members.

1. I LOVE that title! Bravo to whoever came up with that. Super clever.

2. This painting is SO beautiful. I love the sparkle of the white paper from where you let your brush drag across.

3. I also really love those reflections, you do superb reflections.

4. I'm feeling a tad burned out with what I've been painting lately. I need to do something that will really shake things up but I don't know what. Suggestions??

:)

Oh Prabal you are the master of water! This is so beautiful :0)
I am trying very hard to create another bear with the same 'feel' as the last. It's a very difficult thing to capture more than once! :0)

Prabal, this is great. I see it as being stripped down to the bare essentials of a watercolor, and I mean that in a totally complimentary manner.

Frank,
Thank you so much. And looks like it is a nice coincidence that you'll be painting water now. I would wait for your work now.

Crystal,
I'l pass on the compliments to my friend. Oh you noticed that sparkle. I had tried to underplay it, so that it adds to that stillness.
Burned out?? Well as I suggested you can go outdoors with your sketchbook. And now I have a second suggestion too. Arrange some nice flowers in your home and paint them.. The flowers would freshen you up I hope..

Sandra,
I know how difficult it is to create the same feel again. But your bear is just amazing. I am waiting for the next one..

Kathryn,
As I read your comment I realized that bare essential part. I think that was done sub-consciously. But in the next one I'll try to do this again.

Pat,
Indeed a great place. I still cherish that night I spent in the island..

Prabal, you are off to a smashing start for 2012!! Your works are just beautiful so far. Oh, my goodness that sky in your last painting and the water in this painting. You are managing to keep the loose quality but with a super refined feel. Masterful my friend:))
