The Window
One thing that gives me a lot of trouble is using darks in a painting. In this painting I was trying to use really dark darks (straight out of the tube). I am now planning to keep experimenting for sometime with darks.
PC also did the same painting. He changed the original photo quiet a bit to get good depth. I changed the wall color from blue to a warm sienna to get a color contrast between the window and the wall.

nice sense of aeging !
add something to give a sense of scale ?
~Sahu
Sahu, I did not think about the scale factor at all. A person peeping out of one of the windows could have been a good suggestion of scale.
The raw-siena washed wall and the shadows that you have added have brought more life to the window.
We haven't managed the darks well enough
Very nice, Prabal! Like the colors! To get more darkness, I use several glazes of the same color!
Ramesh, thanks for the appreciation. Currently I am using Canson Montval paper, which is not able to take more than 2 washes. I am now planning to buy some paper suggested by Ajay (from Pune) and also a sheet of Arches cold pressed, which will allow me to do more washes.
Beautiful window...very traditional .Go for paper 140 lb or heavier.Any less, and you can't add a third wash without spoiling the painting!
I really like this painting, I ve been meaning to write to you earlier, jus got caught up, thanks for the wonderful comment u left, I appreciate it. I love this painting very much..
Arti, Yes that is what I am planning to buy now. But I still have some montval left. So shall be using them for some more paintings.
Ruchi, thank you very much. I loved the latest painting by you.
Painting those dark almost creates hole in the painting (absence of any light is black which is darkest shade possible ). I try and avoid darks to that extent but if you really want dark colour you can try and mix poster colour
Ajay, Thanks for the explainations and suggestions over mail.
