I have been thinking of learning portraits for some time now. And what better way to learn than just doing it. So here is my first portrait. Its not a good portrait, but not a bad start.
Morning Prabal, wonderful portrait. I have done only a few portraits and am happy each time I capture a likeness of the person. They are never perfect but anyone who knows the person can recognize who it is and that's all that is needed. Great job!
Very good start Prabal! Remember it is all about the form and presenting 3D view on just 2D paper. I love how how you picked up the smile ( I believe the smile and the eyes of this gentleman are the main point of this painting)
Is this really your first attempt? It's very good :0) I have yet to try one in watercolours and have only done a portrait in acrylics. I haven't been brave enough!
Gary, Thnaks for stopping by. And yes I'll just keep doing and doing.. :)
Liana, I have heard somewhere that 'today is the best day to try something new'. But I become very late in trying things. But I am happy that I am trying now. :)
I am a watercolor painter from Bhubaneswar, India. I am mostly a landscape painter and prefer to paint outdoors or as they say en plain air. Through this blog I try to share my art and interact with people. So your comments are always welcome. You can contact me at

Portraits are challenging but fun (I've only done a couple myself). This is good, Prabal. Keep it up.

Irina,
You are spot on about the eyes and smile that have formed the expression. This is my dad's expression.
Thanks Padmaja for wishing me.
Sandra,
Yes this is my first portrait in watercolor. I have done 1 portrait in oil and 1 in acrylics before this. :)
