'Maausi' in my mother tongue means aunt. In general you can address any elderly woman as 'maausi' and this word has a very sweet emotion attached to it.
This woman's face may have hardened over the years because of the hardships she has gone through, but just call her 'maausi' once and see her softer side come alive.
p.s. This is my first acrylic painting.

Wow, wirklich sehr schön.
Viele Grüße Werner
Well, you answered my question yourself about the medium! How was the experience?
I like those hot & warm colors alongside the cool green :)
In Rajasthani, we say masi... meaning "maa si"...like mother!
beautiful, really beautiful. A facial expression that embodies ancient wisdom

I am really proud of you! :)
Thank you Werner. Thanks Maga.
Ramesh,
As opposed to watercolors, there was a lot of freedom using acrylics. Thanks for noticing the warm cool contrast. And yes, 'maausi' also means the same as 'maasi'... like mother.
Sahu,
I knew you would identify with her. She reminds me too of my village. I am waiting for your crayons version.
PC,
Thanks a lot. That was too much appreciation to handle. :)
Great,Prabal. You have done extremely well with a new medium. As for the portrait, your maasi is just our average Indian 'ma'-she could belong to anywhere!
Beautiful painting and what a face full of character. Well done on the acrylics, you've handled them well!
Arti,
Thanks for liking it. And you are correct. She is like 'ma'. So maa-si or maausi.
Liz,
Thank you so much. I had got attracted to paint this because of the same reason that you mentioned. I could only capture a little.
Oh My God! Beautiful...Both-Your Painting and Maausi!! :)
Thanks Megha... on behalf of Maausi.
