An acrylic triad

Last time I was in Kolkata I was enchanted by the beauty of the city. I was seeing paintings everywhere. The city has a personality and it reflects even in the non-living things out there. Specially in the buildings. Both old and ancient. Sometime they look like gaunt old men, sometime like a lady twisting her body and sometimes like children playing hide and seek. I was not sure how I would do this in watercolor. So I used acrylics, which allowed me to explore end experiment while painting. And a little experimentation with perspective distortion did seem to help the cause. I hope you enjoy these.

Another Acrylic

Hi there. First of all if you are able to read this right now I need some advice. My blog has developed a problem recently all of a sudden on its own. When I open my blog it automatically redirects me to some other page. I can log into blogger, but when I open my blog page it gets redirected. And the funny part is that everybody is not experiencing this problem with my blog. Some are also able to open my blog without any issues. I really dont know what to do about it. If any of you have got any advice please mail me at prabal.mallick@gmail.com.

Well since I am able to post I am posting this acrylic piece I did a few days back. This is one of my friends from college. He got married recently and this one is done for him. I hope it finds a good place in his home.

Red Berry Walk

After my Chikmagalur series I am taking a break with acrylics. No watercolor for last 7-8 days now. Just having a little fun with acrylics before any more tubes of my acrylic set dries up (4 tubes have already dried up by the way). I find taking such breaks with a different medium very useful and a lot of fun.

I did not start with a very concrete idea for this one. Just kept going with the flow. Changed the foreground and the tree 2-3 times. Finally stopped at the least unsatisfied point. Otherwise I may still have been painting this.

I'll be going with my sketching group for a weekend sketching trip to Nandi hills (about 40 kms from Bangalore) on Sunday. I am really excited about it. Hopefully I'll be able to get one nice work out of the trip. But more on that next week. You guys enjoy your weekend.

Its that time again

Yes. Its that time again; When one feels completely uninspired. I have not done a watercolor for a about two weeks now. I have been through this stage before and I know I'll be out of it soon. But still it does fill one with some kind of insecurity. Its  a very internal kind of insecurity. Suddenly you question your passion and that kind of makes you feel insecure.

The key I feel is to just think of it as a phase that will pass. And of course its the right time to pick up something else and give it a try. I have been doing more of sketching now and also gave a try to acrylics once again. Hope you enjoy it.

May you all grow

Wishing you all a great year ahead. I hope it brings you growth. Material, intellectual and emotional. May you all break free from the lure of darkness and take the stairs that leads you towards light. Keep the faith.

A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

And I would also like to thank you all for being the great motivators that you always have been and having more faith in me than what I have in myself.

BIG THANK YOU TO ALL.

Market scene with....

Sometimes no matter what one tries the painting just does not become half as good as the sketch.

When I did the sketch I though I had been able to capture the 'buzz' in the market. When I did the first painting I did not have the sketch with me. So when I finally had both of them together I realized how badly I had missed the sketch during the painting. So I tried a new version with different treatment. But still to me the sketch remains the best of them all. It just captures the essence better than the others.

Maausi in acrylic

'Maausi' in my mother tongue means aunt. In general you can address any elderly woman as 'maausi' and this word has a very sweet emotion attached to it.

This woman's face may have hardened over the years because of the hardships she has gone through, but just call her 'maausi' once and see her softer side come alive.

p.s. This is my first acrylic painting.
