Not the usual stuff

This time I am posting something that I do not do so often. Figurative work and a few charcoal works. The figurative work demanded a controlled approach as opposed to my free flowing approach in landscapes. But the end result was satisfying.

In the charcoal ones I tried to play around with the perspectives to make things interesting. I hope it interests you. :)

Sketchbook time

Hi there. Its been long since I posted anything from my sketchbook. I know many of you out there love to get a peek into other artist's sketchbooks. I too always look forward to it. 

These two sketches were done yesterday (15th August, Independence day of India) at a coffee shop. While I was sketching the gentleman below he realized in quick time that he was being sketched and exclaimed to me 'Oh looks like I am being sketched'! I dont know why but for a moment I felt like a thief who has been caught red handed by the police. But being a nice person he was he gave a nod for me to continue. Other sketches were just gesture studies of people who did not realize they were being sketched. :)

While I was just cleaning up my book shelf I found this abstract doodle I had done about 12-13 years back. Completely meaning less doodle, but thought it would be an interesting post.

Another Acrylic

Hi there. First of all if you are able to read this right now I need some advice. My blog has developed a problem recently all of a sudden on its own. When I open my blog it automatically redirects me to some other page. I can log into blogger, but when I open my blog page it gets redirected. And the funny part is that everybody is not experiencing this problem with my blog. Some are also able to open my blog without any issues. I really dont know what to do about it. If any of you have got any advice please mail me at prabal.mallick@gmail.com.

 

Well since I am able to post I am posting this acrylic piece I did a few days back. This is one of my friends from college. He got married recently and this one is done for him. I hope it finds a good place in his home.

Some more

Here are some more sketches. I still have not learnt to draw faces, but I think I am getting better. The reference for both these was picked from internet. I use a blunt crayon sort of thing for these sketches. It is known as Sudha crayons here. Comes very cheap and great for sketching. It is almost like conte crayons. Only a little thicker, flakier and harder. And it is 6 times cheaper than conte crayons.

As it is a little blunt, getting those sharp details is difficult. But I guess the sharp details here were not required.

Game Rain and Mood

Game Rain and Mood. Yes this is the title of this painting. I really could not get a better title. So just going with this. 

Last Friday evening we had a game of football (not the American one :)) and it started to rain. I guess it must be at least ten years since a football game in rain for me. It was really a lot of fun. As we were returning back it was getting dark. Sun had already set, but the far sky had some warmth. We were tired. Vehicles were slowly starting to put their lights on while the road was wet and slippery. A kind of dark and sombre mood had set in after all that thrill from the game. I had my moment of inspiration. On Sunday I painted this from memory.

I did not like certain things in the final painting. The car on the left of the painting could have been much further in the distance. The over all dark feel probably has got exaggerated more than necessary. Etc etc (as always). But when I see the painting it reminds me of how it felt that time. Which I think is awesome.

Two weeks back I saw this picture with three tiny kids headed for school in local newspaper. What caught my attention was their overfilled and over sized school bags. And it started a chain of thoughts and then this painting was born. It is called Childhood's end. I hope you are able to empathize with the perspective of this one. Have a great week ahead.
