Seeing art is good. But too much of it can be a little distracting. At least that is what happened to me. Because of internet everyday we are able to see so many paintings in so many different styles by so many artists. And suddenly I wanted to incorporate all that into my paintings. I kept making one disaster after the other and just did not realize what was going wrong.
So I took a break for some time to clear up my mind. I just did not do anything related to art. And when I finally painted after this gap I realized that all the hangover was gone and I was not trying to force different styles into my painting. I was back to painting with my instinct, my colors, my style. And the outcome was good enough for me. I was satisfied.
The original photo was taken by a friend of mine Neeraj during his trip to Rajastan.

Too true Prabal :) And this is a fantastic new painting, it is definetly your style.
lovely painting prabal.and its a true style work.good one friend.
I know what you mean about overload. This is really lovely and I love the subtle colours you have used. Perfect!
Your post has only just appeared on my side bar! Very strange .. This is beautiful. Those love lines and the colours make the building look like marble. That overload thing you talk about? Been there!
When I wrote this post I thought may be its only me.. But looks like it happens to others too. :)
Sandra,
You have summed up the experience nicely in one word. 'Overload'. :)
Crystal, Rupesh, Sandra, Liz,
I am now more satisfied with this painting as you guys liked it.
I think somewhat differently.
Good art does inspire us problem starts when one tries to copy the style . it's ok to get inspired but copying style will lead to frustration. The style evolves over period
Ajay,
Thats what I was trying to say. I am not saying that one should stop seeing art. But one should be aware of its side effects. Sub-conciously I had started to copy different styles. Now I am aware.
I wanted to say what Ajay has already said and to add a little more, it is totally up to us and we have a choice to portray what we want to convey in whatever way we choose. Creating art is to relax ourselves and certainly not something to get pressurized by :-)Loved your work!
A truly your style. It happens sometimes but now its gud that the hangover is gone...:) Beautiful color!
i'll remember the tip. the shadows are fantastic. I like the title too!
Sparrowhawk,
Please don't take this as a tip. I have just shared my experience. The same may not be applicable to you. We all have our way of learning. I just shared the way I learnt not to get overwhelmed with things.
Hi prabal...I think 'style' is what comes naturally to us..even when we are not thinking about it! So dont worry about it- your natural style is good enough! This painting has beautiful hues..nicely depicted.
The title goes so well with the thoughts you have expressed. As for my personal experience, I like many different styles and also many different mediums! So, I am faced with indecision. I am glad you figured out what was going wrong and moving along. Best wishes.
Arti,
Thanks for the encouragement.
Aruna,
Thanks for noticing the title. :)
Nice Paintings .. I was fortunate enough to attend the Confluence organized in Bangalore. The paintings were just amazing. Yes you have said very correctly that at times implementing lot of things in one time make us loose focus. Nice to know that taking a break helped you overcome this and start rejuvenated. Thanks, Riya
